1. Why should I join the Georgia Society of Hearing Professionals?

The benefits of membership are many:

  • Membership allows you to take an active role in the profession you selected. This society provides a unified voice on a state level and representation in the IHS (International Hearing Society)

  • Membership provides a sharing of information, communication and cooperation with other hearing instrument specialists and hearing healthcare professionals.

  • Semi annual meetings provide continued educational requirements and the opportunity to have a voice in the government of your profession. When you don't participate it is difficult to complain.

  • By raising the standard of care practiced by hearing instrument specialists, membership lends creditability to every professional.

  • GSOHP supports the highest standard of professional competency, business integrity and excellence in serving the hearing impaired.

2. What are the requirements to become a hearing aid dispenser?

The requirements are:

  • high school diploma/equivalent for license consideration

  • 18 years of age

  • high moral character

3. I want to be a hearing instrument dispenser, what is the process I must complete?

To become a hearing instrument dispenser you must:

  • training permit

  • apprentice dispenser permit

  • Dispenser examination

4. What are the requirements necessary to become a board certified hearing instrument specialist?

The National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences is the association that can best answer this question. We provide a link to their web page for further information. Requirements before sitting for examination are:

  • Current state license

  • Two years dispensing experience

Upon successful completion of the examination, board certification will be awarded.

5. What are the advantages of becoming a member of the International Hearing Society?

  • Membership allows you to take an active role in the profession you selected. This society provides a unified voice on a state level and representation in the IHS (International Hearing Society)

6. How do I become a member of the Georgia Society of Hearing Professionals?

The requirements for membership are as follows:

  1. Sponsorship by two current members of the Georgia Society of Hearing Professionals.

  2. Georgia State License in good standing

  3. Completion of application accompanied by a check for the membership dues, which are $50.00 for voting membership or $25.00 for nonvoting membership. New members also are required to pay a $50.00 application fee.
